Chicago Blackhawks Betting Preview

This year, the NHL season starts on October 2, 2019, and ends April 2020. The Blackhawks will open their season by playing in Prague, CZ on October 4. So, there is a good chance that by mid-season, somewhere around December, Illinois sports fans will have a chance to bet on the Chicago Blackhawks.

Why is it taking so long?

It all comes down to fulfilling legal requirements set in the new gambling law. The first step will be to collect members of the new Gaming Board, and as of the end of July, Illinois’ governor was still struggling with finding the chairman and one other member of the board.

However, this delay doesn’t stop existing casinos in Illinois from finding partner companies to create their in-house sportsbooks. Also, the law allows for the stadiums of professional teams to open a sports betting operation, meaning the United Center in the very heart of Chicago, where the Blackhawks play home games, can do that too.

For $10 million, the existing brick-and-mortar casinos and stadiums can apply for a license to operate sports betting business. As soon as it’s granted and physical facilities are ready, gamers will be able to bet on Chicago Blackhawks.

Further down the timeline, big online sportsbooks operators, like FanDuel or DraftKings will be able to apply for the online license. But that’s only after 18 months, and at a double license fee.

How can you place a bet on Chicago Blackhawks?

If you want to place a bet on the Chicago Blackhawks, first you will have to complete an in-person registration. This means a trip to the physical location of the sportsbook. However, once you register and make your deposit, most likely a mobile app will allow you to place bets and follow up on the game results.

Where can you bet on Chicago Blackhawks?

As we mentioned earlier, the first to accept sports bets will be existing, brick-and-mortar casinos in Illinois and professional team stadiums. Although bettors will have to wait 18 months to bet via online sports betting giants like FanDuel or DraftKings, this doesn’t mean that the big game isn’t coming to Illinois soon.

Pointsbet already announced its partnership with Hawthorne Race Course, one of the oldest American race tracks, located just outside Chicago in Cicero. Pointsbet is known for a wide range of types of traditional bets, as well as their own special betting system, which involves a bigger risk, but bigger winnings, hence - even more excitement.

It’s safe to say that by the end of this year, Chicago sports fans will be placing bets on their favorite teams. Pointsbet and Hawthorne Race Course were first to announce their partnership, and no doubt we can expect news of more such partnerships this summer.

Although Chicago Blackhawks are not very high in the ESPN ranking (21st place out of 31 teams), there are reasons for their fans to be optimistic about the upcoming season as new players are joining the team. The team will play at home for all of October. Making it even more fun to place a live bet on Chicago Blackhawks 2019 season while watching their games.
